India ram through England to register clean sweep in the ODI series
It was a clinical performance from Team India that saw them rout England in the ODI series finale as well, which will prove to be a major booster ahead of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. Winning the toss, England opted to bowl and they got an early reward in the form of Rohit Sharma's wicket (1).
However, Virat Kohli returned to form while at the other end it was a rampant Shubman Gill showdown that saw India razing through. Gill (112) and Kohli (52) added 116 runs for the second wicket. Adil Rashid got the better of Virat but that simply allowed India to lay down the bedrock for another crucial partnership.
Shreyas Iyer (78) continued with his dream run while another century partnership for Team India propelled them to a massive podium for a grandstand finish. KL Rahul looked good for his 29-ball-40, allowing India to continue with their dominance. Despite a late slide, the hosts managed to pile up 356. Adil Rashid was the pick of the lot for the English bowlers with figures of 4/64.
England had a solid start as Phil Salt (23) and Ben Duckett (34) looked to control the momentum. However, Arshdeep Singh’s double whammy brought India back to the game. Tom Banton pulled off a warring 38 while Joe Root garnered 24 runs but the English resistance was shortlived.
The spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel rammed through the gates and allowed India to eye for a fine finish. Harshit Rana struck twice to bring England down to their knees while Washington Sundar chimed in with the crucial scalp of Liam Livingstone who looked shaky for his nine.
From thereon, it was simply a formality for Team India as they rode roughshod over their English counterparts. India skittled out England for 214, registering a monumental win by 142 runs while also pocketing the series by 3-0 margin. Shubman Gill won the Player of the Match award for his scintillating century and was also awarded the Player of the Series award for his tally of 259 runs across the series.
