India prevail against Australia in a high-scoring encounter at the Gabba

It seems that India has forged a special penchant for emerging triumphant in one of Australia’s strongest footholds, the Gabba. Albeit it was just a warm-up game, it was a brilliant watershed in the final two overs that propelled Team India to a remarkable win.

Australia won the toss and opted to bowl first. KL Rahul came out all guns blazing at the mighty Aussies while Rohit Sharma was calm and composed in his short residence at the crease. Virat Kohli hung around in the center for a while but couldn’t really give a conclusive shape to his decent start as Mitchell Starc got the better of him.

while KL Rahul provides the early momentum, it was an emphatic show of domination from India’s in-form batter, Suryakumar Yadav, as he hacked his way through a string of Australian bowlers.

Despite the fall of two quick wickets in the middle, India never looked like being uncomfortable as their batters knocked around the required runs with Suryakumar Yadav delivering hefty blows on opportune intervals.

India managed to post a fine 186 with Surya leading the charge as he smashed a 33-ball-50 while Rahul was bang on his money with a seraphic 57 from just 33 balls to show the way for the Indians.

Despite a strong show with the bat, India seemed shaky in their defence as Mitchell Marsh ran riot at the start while Aaron Finch complemented him perfectly. It needed some doing from the Men in Blue and the infringement eventually came through Bhuvneshwar Kumar who produced a ripper to remove the dangerous Mitchell Marsh.

Steve Smith was the next to depart as it was Chahal who struck timbre with the former Australian skipper trying to sweep him. The fall of Smith did very little to deter the spirits of the hosts as they seemed rock solid in control with Aaron Finch showing them the way.

Australia needed 16 runs from the last 2 overs and they had a set Finch in place accompanied by a menacing Tim David. Harshal Patel was shouldered with the hefty onus of the 19th over and he shocked the fans with one of his trademark, dipping slower balls that left Finch bemused and his timbre rattled.

This was followed by a clinical fielding effort from Virat Kohli who ran out Tim David with a picture-perfect shy at the stumps. Two wickets from the first two balls and the game was suddenly open. Harshal did a brilliant job of keeping the contest alive with an extraordinary 19th over.

Mohammed Shami was handed the final over and he hit the bullseye right away with a couple of fine deliveries followed by a wild swing from Pat Cummins. What everyone though to be a game-ending blow was plucked from thin air by Virat Kohli, defying gravity and balancing his following act in pompous fashion.

The last three balls had three wickets written on them as Ashton Agar was run out while Shami executed a couple of brilliant yorkers to cannon past the defences of Josh Inglis and Kane Richardson as Team India walked out with the bragging rights in their third warm-up game since landing on Australian soil.
