India jump to the second spot in WTC rankings after emphatic win over England
An emphatic 317-run win over England in the 2nd Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium saw India jump to the second spot in the World Test Championship rankings. India, who lost the first Test at the same venue against England, were fourth before today's result. After settling the scores in Chennai, the hosts now have a points percentage of 69.7, just behind the table-toppers New Zealand. The Kane Williamson-led team have already qualified for the WTC final.

Thanks to the mammoth victory, the road ahead is pretty straightforward for India. They will need to win the series by 2-1 or 3-1 margin to book their spot alongside New Zealand in the inaugural final of the World Test Championship. Australia and England occupy the third and fourth position with 69.2 and 67.0 PCT respectively. As far as Joe Root's team is considered, they will have to win the remaining two Tests in order to qualify for the WTC final. The newly-refurbished Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad will host the last two Tests between India and England.
