India fined 20 percent of match fees for slow over rates
Team India has had to bear the brunt of slow over rates against Australia in the ODI opener in Sydney. The International Cricket Council has levied a fine of 20 per cent for maintaining a slow over-rate in their 66-run defeat on Friday (November 27).
Match Referee David Boon imposed the sanction as Virat Kohli's side was ruled to be an over short of the target after due consideration of the time allowances.
The charges were levied by on-field umpires Rod Tucker and Sam Nogajski, TV umpire Paul Reiffel and fourth umpire Gerard Abood. India skipper Virat Kohli accepted the proposed sanctions, and hence no formal hearing was needed.
Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel relates to minimum over-rate offences, and players are fined 20 per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.
India trail the ODI series 0-1 after Aaron Finch’s side registered a massive 66-run victory in the first ODI of the three-match series.
