India eliminated from WTC 2023-25 as Australia pocket 6-wicket win at SCG
The curtains were brought down on the latest iteration of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as Australia marched out on day four of the SCG Test and walked away with the bragging rights of the game emphatically. Starting the day at 141/6, the Indian batters had barely any resistance whatsoever as they were bundled out for 157. Scott Boland finished the innings with figures of 6/45.
Australia went off to a flyer as Sam Konstas (22) and Usman Khawaja (41) took charge of proceedings. A quick charge from Prasidh Krishna, who claimed three wickets to remove Konstas, Marnus Labuschagne (6) and Steve Smith (4) saw the visitors claw their way back.
However, Khawaja’s resistance laced with the sparkling brilliance from the duo of Travis Head (34*) and Beau Webster (39*) saw the visitors off without much of a fuss, with the Indian bowlers unable to make much of an impact in the absence of pace ace, Jasprit Bumrah who sat out due to back spasms. Krishna eventually was the pick of the Indian bowling lot with figures of 3/65.
Scott Boland won the Player of the Match award for his 10 wickets in the game while Jasprit Bumrah was awarded the Player of the Series for his sensational haul of 32 wickets.
