India are blessed as far as riches in bowling are concerned: Sunil Gavaskar

Indian cricketing icon, Sunil Gavaskar quoted unreserved encomiums for India’s ace fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah. The praise came after India’s emphatic showdown against West Indies where the Indian bowlers pulled off a fine task of holding onto their nerves under tremendous pressure and some serious power hitting.

It wasn’t just Bumrah who found himself in the good books of the former Indian captain but a young Deepak Chahar too who was praised for his ability to swing the ball both ways. Gavaskar raved about how Indian bowling has evolved over the years to give a crucial edge to the team and has become a major talking point in the cricketing world.

Talking about Deepak Chahar, he quoted, “He is a terrific swing bowler. He has that extra pace as well. He isn't express but he gets the ball to move at a decent pace which makes it difficult for a batsman. And he has got both the in-swinger and the out-swinger without a noticeable change in action which makes it difficult. So, when you have someone like him and have Bhuvneshwar Kumar on the bench after two fine performances in the series, India are blessed as far as riches in bowling are concerned.”

He then shifted his focus to Bumrah, as he was heard saying, “There is Bumrah. Don't forget him. He will walk into any team in the world not just India team, any team. Then you have Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami...spoiled for choices.”

Bumrah will be returning to the squad as Sri Lanka visits India for a three-match T20I and two-match Test series. The Indian vice-captain will be joined by Siraj, Chahar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Avesh Khan to lead India’s bowling outfit.
