India announces squad for Ireland T20I series; Jasprit Bumrah returns as Indian captain
BCCI on Monday announced the return of Jasprit Bumrah to the Indian squad and that too as the captain of the side for the upcoming Ireland T20I series. Even though there are still questions about his fitness and form, it is expected that the ace Indian quick would be hitting his straps in no time.
India will be heading to Ireland in mid-August for a three-match T20I series and the apex cricket body of India announced their 16-member squad for the upcoming contest. However, the crux of India’s attention would be on how Jasprit Bumrah performs, particularly ahead of the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup.
This will be the first time that Jasprit Bumrah will be leading the Indian side in a limited-overs format, and Ruturaj Gaikwad has been named as the vice-captain for the series. Due to the upcoming Asia Cup, the management has opted to go with some new names for this bilateral affair as the senior players will be prepping for the continental tournament that starts a week after the series.
Prasidh Krishna’s return to the side is another talking point, with the pacer marking a comeback almost a year after having played his last competitive game against Zimbabwe in August 2022. The three-match series will kick-start on August 18th at the Malahide Cricket Club in Dublin, with the venue set to host all matches of the bilateral which will end on the 23rd.
