India and England docked two WTC points for slow over-rate

England and India have been docked two World Test Championship (WTC) points for slow over-rate in the first Test at Trent Bridge. Apart from the points, both teams have also been fined 40% of their match fees as well.

This is not the first time a team has been penalised for failing to maintain the over-rate. Last year, Australia were fined 40% of the match fee and docked four valuable WTC points. This had a significant impact on their chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship final. They would have faced India in the World Test Championship Final if not for the dropped four points.

The much-anticipated first Test between England and India ended in a disappointing draw. Rain ruined what could have been an exciting final day of play. Due to the persistent rain, not a single ball was bowled on Day 5. As a result, the umpires decided to call off the game, with both teams sharing two points each for a draw.

The action will now shift to the Home of Cricket, Lord's Cricket Ground, where England will face India in the second Test on Thursday. As things stand now, both the teams have two points each in the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 rankings.
