Inaugural WPL auction to be held on the 13th of February in Mumbai
In the midst of all the buzz around the upcoming Women’s Premier League, the BCCI has announced the auction dates for the inaugural edition of the tournament. The same media release also carried the list of all the players who will be a part of the upcoming extravaganza.
The inaugural season of the tournament will be held from March 4thto 26th in Mumbai where the Brabourne Stadium and the DY Patil Stadium will be playing host.
A total of 409 players will be going under the hammer at the Jio World Convention Center in Mumbai on February 13th. The initial count was that of 1525 players who registered themselves for the auction and after detailed discussions with the franchises, the final list has been trimmed down to 409 players who will be participating in an event that is first of its kind for India.
Out of the 409 players who have enlisted, 246 are Indians while 163 are overseas players out of which 8 players are from the associate nations. A total of 202 capped players will be a part of the same while 199 uncapped players will be heading to the Auction room. A total of 90 slots are available with the teams with a maximum of 30 reserved for the overseas players.
The official website of the BCCI revealed, “INR 50 Lakhs is the highest reserve price with 24 players choosing to be slotted in the highest bracket. Team India Captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma and India’s Under-19 T20 World Cup-winning captain Shafali Verma are amongst the few Indians who have slotted themselves in the highest bracket.”
It further stated, “13 overseas players have also slotted themselves under the INR 50 Lakh reserve price with the likes of Ellyse Perry, Sophie Ecclestone, Sophie Devine & Deandra Dottin to name a few. 30 players are in the auction list with a base price of INR 40 Lakh.”
The auction will be a single day event starting at 2:30 PM IST on the 13th of February.
