With discussions running wild and anticipations boiling out of the cauldron of discourses, BCCI is finally set to launch a five-team women’s IPL that would be taking place in March 2023, according to reports.

Going by the latest discussions and the reports of ESPNCricinfo, the tournament is supposed to be a five-team affair which would be played out after the conclusion of the Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa on February 26th.

It has been reported that the plan postulated by BCCI entails a total of 22 matches to be played between these five teams where each contingent will be comprising 18 players each with a cap of 6 foreigners. Only five overseas players will be allowed to feature in the playing XI wherein four of them can be from full member countries while the other one has to be from an associate nation.

Each team will be playing each other twice which will constitute a total of 20 matches. The league topper will be final bound without any play-off obstacles in the middle. The second finalist will be decided through an eliminator played between the second and third-ranked teams.

The report also suggests that the inaugural edition at the least will not have a home and away format, and instead will be played at a limited number of centres one after the other.
