In the powerplay, we have been quite unlucky: Freddie Wilde, RCB Team Analyst

With the advent of the sport, cricket has now evolved into more of a number’s game and one of the most prized positions in any given team of the world is that of an analyst. An analyst holds the key to an ocean of secrets that can make or break a team.

RCB’s latest Bold Diaries episode starred their analyst, Freddie Wilde. He shed some crucial light on the modus operandi of a cricket analyst on the field and how he points out what exactly is going wrong.

Talking about a decent start to the season, Freddie said, “It’s a fresh new start with ten teams and a mega-auction. We are fairly happy with the way things have commenced for us. However, there is plenty of room for improvement.”

He further added, “After five games there are a few areas that we are looking out for. We are spending extra time on trying to nail them down. We are at that stage of the tournament where everyone is going to find their best combinations, everyone is going to find out, how to use their bowlers in certain phases, all those kinds of stuff.”

He narrowed down a couple of areas that has been the focus point. Wilde said, “There are two key areas that we are working on and one of them is death bowling. That has been a key area that I have been closely working out with the bowling coach. I have been pointing out, what are the lengths to bowl, how to structure your over while at the other end of the innings, powerplay has been another area that we are looking at.”

He continued, “I think in the powerplay, we have been quite unlucky. We have bowled really well but it’s just that we haven’t got the reward. That is the instance when we keep on saying that if we can keep on doing things that we are doing, the wickets will come. While at the death, there is a slight change of method needed. You have got to adapt to different dimensions that we are having, different grounds, different pitches and different oppositions obviously.”

He concluded by saying, “So, it is like a constant sort of battle to try and work out exactly what to do in each game but hopefully as we get through the tournament now, with five games in, we have settled on a combination. That is how things are working for us as we move towards the business end of the tournament.”
