I'm used to it, I love it – KL Rahul on his responsibilities as India captain
India enjoyed a fine outing against Australia in the series opener as they edged past them in a thrilling encounter at Mohali. Indian captain KL Rahul essayed an important knock, knitting together an unbeaten 58 as the hosts eventually got across the finish line despite a wobble initially.
Rahul, who is the Indian captain for the first two ODIs in Rohit Sharma's absence opened up at length about the match and the crucial partnership with Suryakumar Yadav in the end which made things pretty easy for India.
Rahul opened up on his captaincy and how India approached the game, stating, “Not the first time, always happens with me. I'm used to it, I love it. I think the intensity in the afternoon was great, after Colombo this felt like heaven in the start but it was really hot and humid. It gets tough and physically challenging, but we've all worked on our fitness and that's showing on the field. We only played five bowlers, so they had to bowl 10 overs.”
He also shed some light about the exact train of thoughts during India’s wobble, as he said, “After Shubman got out, it was a bit tricky with the set batter out. But managed to build a good partnership with Surya, need to put myself in such challenging situations.”
Rahul concluded by talking about the match-defining partnership, stating, “We kept talking about hitting good cricket shots, rotating the strike and this is something all our batters are working on. We didn't want to get bogged down, we were always on par so we wanted to take it deep.”
