I’m starting to walk around a little bit more comfortably: Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell suffered a horrifying injury at his friend’s birthday party where he slipped and fractured his leg. The injury ruled him out for a good deal of time and the Australian cricketer is now in his recovery phase.

Talking on Fox Cricket, Maxwell revealed that the accident was way too devastating and had he not been lucky, he could have lost his leg, an injury that would have drawn an end to his cricket career. Going by the words of Maxwell, he was pretending to chase a mate in a birthday party when they both slipped in an innocuous accident and unfortunately his friend fell on his leg.

Narrating the gruesome accident, Maxi said that he could literally feel every break from the fracture as he lay on the ground, contorting in agony.

Speaking on the horror incident, Maxwell said, “I probably wasn’t that far off losing my foot which was pretty scary. To be able to be out the other side (now) and starting to walk again, it’s weird you sort of have to teach yourself how to walk.”

In this interview, Maxi spoke further about how his recovery has been going, adding, “I’m starting to walk around a little bit more comfortably. Hopefully get rid of the crutches in a couple of days. Things are starting to look up. (Wife Vini) has been an unbelievable support for me – basically my nurse for a month and a half taking care of me. (She’s) really helped me get through the last little bit.”

He also said, “The joint freezes up a fair bit, you lose a lot of your muscle mass in your leg. I’ve been going through working on an exercise bike, the pool, teaching yourself how to walk. I’m pretty good with my rehab. I’m able to invest all my time into it. I stay up at night icing and rehabbing and trying to do everything I possibly can to get back to the park. I want to be back out there with my teammates.”

“I probably wish I had been hammered for it. It was one of those incidents where I felt every part of it. It was pretty uncomfortable. It’s been a tough few weeks but things are looking up,” he concluded on an optimistic note.
