If anyone can beat Tendulkar’s 100 hundreds, it’s Virat Kohli: Irfan Pathan
The rate at which Virat Kohli has been scoring runs no record, particularly in the ODIs, look safe. He is at the top of his fitness; the form seems to be his constant companion and runs flow with ease.
Given such impeccable run, the belief that he will go past Sachin Tendulkar’s 100 international hundreds is not quite misplaced. However, Virat himself has not talked about it and maintains that his focus is always on scoring runs for the team, not individual milestones.
Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan, who recently suggested a farewell-cum-charity match between retired cricketers and the current Indian team thinks that 100 hundreds will be Virat Kohli’s next target.
“I am sure, 100 hundreds. He (Virat) might not be talking about it but if anyone could achieve that feat after Sachin Tendulkar, he is the one. He has achieved so much in such little time. I hope that if anyone breaks the record of those 100 hundreds, because I was part of Sachin Paaji’s journey, when he scored that last hundred as well. But I always wish that if anyone breaks that record, he has to be an Indian,” Pathan said on Star Sports' Cricket Connected.
“Virat has the ability. Virat has fitness which is the most important thing, to be able to achieve that feat. I think he is 30 short of that 100 hundreds and I think he will be able to achieve that before he retires, I really hope so. That’s the target he will have in his mind,” he added further.
Virat’s next big assignment is the Indian Premier League for which he, along with the Royal Challengers Bangalore squad has reached Dubai. The team is under mandatory seven-day quarantine, post which it will start preparing for the season.
