I want you to be the chairman of the company: Virat Kohli reveals hilarious in-flight incident after 2014 England tour
In 2014, India toured England for what was a rather forgettable red-ball series that culminated with a 3-1 loss for the visitors, further highlighted by a poor run of form for Virat Kohli, who put on just 134 runs from 10 innings.
Kohli’s below-average returns by his lofty standards induced a lot of question marks around his position in the XI, with fans clamouring for the star batsman to be dropped from the team. Although India turned around its fortunes in the white-ball leg, Indian cricket fans often don’t forget poor returns in a heartbeat.
Such was the case on India’s flight as they were preparing to return to India, when a passenger was unwilling to let the team off the hook easily, seemingly wanting to pass on tips to MS Dhoni and Kohli.
Talking on the latest episode of RCB Podcast season 2, Kohli revealed the hilarious interaction with the passenger and said, “The man first headed to Mahi and started talking about how the team composition should be and MS ignored it efficiently. He then shifted his focus to me and asked me what exactly is going on with my bat.”
Kohli further continued, explaining how he faced the passenger’s sudden outburst, “The man said that he wanted a hundred from me in the next game. I was young back then and that kind of flicked the switch and I invited him for a conversation. I asked him where he works and he mentioned some company. Then I asked him about his designation and he mentioned that he was some kind of manager. I then replied saying in the next three years, I want you to be the chairman of the company.”
With that last statement, Kohli made the man realise that playing cricket isn’t just a daily video game and that a cheat code will do the trick. Kohli finished narrating the incident by saying in the end, the Indian team members all started shouting “coach, coach” in unison, following which the passenger took it sportingly and returned to his seat.
