I thought we were 85 percent really really good: Faf du Plessis on the loss vs Punjab Kings
RCB has always believed in the power of youth and their tradition of harnessing the young Indian players was once again up for grabs in the latest edition of the tournament. Anuj Rawat made his debut for RCB in the season opener against KKR and despite a modest start, there were a couple of clean hits from the youngster that would be instilling hopes for the Challengers.
He also picked up a fabulous catch of Shikhar Dhawan that was proving RCB’s faith in the youngster. Much to his dismay, he grassed a sitter of Odean Smith, who would later change the complexion of the game completely. It definitely isn’t easy for a youngster to face the searing heat and live up to the heightened expectations pinned on him but the captain’s vote of confidence will be doing a world of good for him.
In RCB Bold Diaries’ latest episode, Faf backed Anuj’s efforts and was also heard saying that how the game is won by the smallest margins. He quoted, “I thought we were 85 percent really really good. The powerplay, they batted really well but then we pulled things back brilliantly. The match was coming towards us. But then obviously no one ever drops a catch on purpose. It is going to happen. That is the game of cricket. That is probably just the small moment of the game where if we got Odean Smith out, he was the last recognized hitter and at that stage he was under ten runs.”
He also said, “Then he had the big over that went for 20 plus. The game of cricket is played with very small margins. For me, as a first game, I was pleased with most of the things and as a team you just want to get sure that every time you get an opportunity, you get the best out of it.”
The former South African skipper concluded by saying, “You also want to make sure that you don’t make the same mistakes over and over. I am not too worried about this game. Obviously, we would have loved to win but it’s really really small margins.”
