I think definitely it was an emotional decision – Rishabh Pant on the captaincy shuffle for SCG
There was a wildfire of discussions when India decided to go in without Rohit Sharma for the fifth Test in Sydney. A few believed that it came on the back of a heated discussion between the coach and the players while the others underlined that it was an overall tactical move.
Rishabh Pant, who came out for the presser at the end of the day’s play, opened up on the move and highlighted the fact that it was definitely an emotional moment for the Hitman. Pant also revealed what Jasprit Bumrah’s message was in absence of Rohit Sharma at the start of the Test.
Pant said, “I think definitely it was an emotional decision. Because he's been captain for a long time we see him as a leader of the team but I think there are some decisions which you are not involved with and it's a very management call so I was not part of that conversation so can't explain anything other than that."
Revealing Bumrah’s message, Pant said, “I think mostly the message is like be positive all the time don't think what has already happened just give your best on the field.” Mixing that with a piece of his mind, Pant added, “And that's what you want from your captain like being in a positive frame of mind and keep moving the game forward each and every day."
He also opened up on Washington Sundar’s dismissal that sparked some serious controversy involving the DRS. Sharing his train of thought on the call, the Indian wicket-keeper said, “I think there is not much to say because technology is one part which as a cricketer you can't control. But I feel whatever decision we make on the field it has to stay with the on-field umpire that's the only thing until unless it's so conclusive to change the decision I think we should stay with on-field umpire rest is umpire's decision end of the day I can't challenge that every day but technology can be a little better I guess."
