I have never played for 100s in my life: Virat Kohli

Kohli seems to have gotten into a rhythmic tune of his own. Once again, the Indian skipper was in his elements in the second ODI. However, the wait for his 71st international century is not over yet. Kohli was dismissed for 66 after having spent a substantial amount at the crease, facing 79 deliveries. Someone with a great conversion rate, getting dismissed after going well past 50 may sound frustrating but Virat has his own way of dealing with things.

In the post-match presentations, Virat was asked if it was frustrating to not get to the three-figure mark despite regularly crossing 50.

Virat’s response was of a team man, who puts the needs of the team ahead of himself every time he steps on to the field.

"I never played for 100s in my life, that's probably why I ended up getting so many in such little time. It's all about contributing to the team cause. If the team doesn't win when you get three figures it doesn't mean anything. You're not going to sit back at the end of your career and look at numbers, it's more about how you played the game," Virat Kohli said.

Virat Kohli last scored a hundred in the day-night Test against Bangladesh in 2019. Since then he has had a series of fifties to his name but the three-figure mark has eluded him.

But for someone who is so dedicated to the team doing well under all circumstances, centuries feel like a by-product of the effort. With a match remaining in the series, and the subsequent IPL, don’t be surprised if the maestro puts the topic to bed soon.
