I don’t think there’s a huge concern - Sunil Gavaskar on India’s batting unit

India had their fair shares of trouble against Pakistan in the former’s Asia Cup 2023 opening clash, particularly with the top-order being shaky that witnessed the duo of Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf raging through despite the resolute likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma present in the batting line-up.

However, their cheap dismissals obviously begged a few questions about how strong India’s top order can be as the start was all over the place and the fact that two of India’s main batters couldn’t hit the stride left the Indian fans in a bit of shock and fear combined.

Former Indian captain, Sunil Gavaskar, said that there is nothing to worry about despite the early departure of Rohit and Kohli. Talking on Sports Tak, “I don't think there's any huge concern. You look at their records. Virat has scored more than 11000 runs, Rohit has scored more than 9000 runs, Shubman Gill has shown shades of what he is capable of too. If even after big players like Virat and Rohit fail, we have a responsible No.5 and No.6 who can take us to 260-odd, we don't need to worry. These things happen in cricket, there will be days where the bowlers are too good.”

India will be back in action in the Asia Cup against Nepal on Monday where the team management will be hoping their two big guns to fire as that would do a world of good to the team spirit of the Men in Blue.
