He's one of those low-profile players who won't be thumping his chest: Sunil Gavaskar on Ajinkya Rahane
There hasn’t been any dearth of praises for Ajinkya Rahane since his herculean knock against Australia, helping India to fight back with his phenomenal 89 that also helped the team avoid a follow-on in the World Test Championship final. Adding to the long list of admirers for his heroic display against the Aussies, Sunil Gavaskar highlighted how Rahane’s reactions won’t change a bit even after playing a masterclass on one of the tensest occasions.
During his commentary on Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar said, “Look at the hundreds he scored, they have mostly been when India were in trouble. He has always risen to the occasion; he has a sense of the occasion. He's one of those low-profile players who won't be thumping his chest when he gets to a half-century or a century. He just raises his bat, goes about his business quietly, but assuredly.”
India will be hoping to rally back on Day four as they have already claimed four wickets in the Australian second innings but as time passes by, it is simply going to be a lot more difficult, with the track showing signs of erosion already and India due to bat in the fourth innings.
With a lead of 296 on the board, already, the game seems to be slipping away from the Indians and Rohit Sharma’s men will need a miraculous effort to pull off what could be one of the country’s most famous wins.
