He played superbly – Rohit Sharma namedrops Virat Kohli as the benchmark of excellence

India had a phenomenal outing against West Indies in their two-match Test series where the visitors bagged the series but were denied a clean sweep due to incessant rain on day five. Virat Kohli crafted a very special knock in the first innings of the second Test, bringing up his 29th Test century, a major driving force behind India putting up 438 runs on the board. 

Rohit Sharma, talking at the post-match conference, namedropped Kohli as one of India’s yardsticks when it comes to delivering at the highest level. The former India skipper smashed 197 runs in the series from the two innings that he batted in, scoring 76 in the first match while mesmerising with a 121 in the second essay.

Rohit said, “In Test matches, you need guys who stabilise the innings like what Virat did, he played superbly. You need a mixture of everything. We have depth, we have got variety. We are in the right place. It's about getting the job done.”

He further added, “I always believe in getting better as a team. I said after the WTC final as well. We've played consistent cricket. That's what we are looking at. We want to focus on all three aspects of the game.”

India seized the series for sure but were hoping for a clean sweep after a dominant display at Dominica. Unfortunately, despite a perfect set-up for the final day of the Test, the rain gods had other plans and eventually forced a truce between India and West Indies.
