He knows that the rhythm is back: Sanjay Bangar on Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli scorched a sensational 63 against Australia in the series decider, capping off his brilliance with a high-flyer in the very first ball of that Daniel Sams’ over before holing out to Aaron Finch. Pundits across the globe have been happy to witness Virat Kohli in such fiery touch and with all these runs coming just ahead of the T20 World Cup, there are reasons to believe that this is just the beginning of an unchecked ascent.
RCB Head coach, Sanjay Bangar, opened up on why Kohli’s current knocks are a harbinger of something massive in Indian cricket. He analyzed Virat’s knock against Australia in the final and pointed out that there has been a seismic shift in the former Indian captain’s body language.
Talking to Star Sports, Bangar said, “He is a champion batter. He has done that for India for such a long period of time. He knows he is in that phase where he is enjoying his game big time. He knows that the rhythm is back, the hunger is back, you can see that with the body language that he is displaying along with his mates. That's what you want to see in him, enjoying.”
He further added, “There was a phase where the pressure was getting to him. But after the break, the sense of enjoyment is back, the feeling of hitting a cricket ball is back in his game.”
Before coming to the Asia Cup, Kohli took a break for a month and kept himself away from the game. He came back with a messianic interview and the way in which he started in the Asia Cup, was a treat for the eyes. Not only was he getting the runs but the way he was dispersing his strokes was a signature of sheer confidence.
It wasn’t just Bangar who was all praises for Virat. Australian legend, Matthew Hayden also chimed in about Kohli’s batting position. “We have been speaking a lot about this. For me, it's almost a non-discussion. He(Kohli) bats at No. 3 for this reason. KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma have got a really good opening partnership. You consolidate at No. 3. The glue is what Australia have been missing in this series, that is Steve Smith,” said the former Australian opener.
