Happy 30th birthday, Rajat Patidar: A glance at the star batter’s three best knocks for RCB

An unfortunate injury to Rajat Patidar meant he couldn’t be a part of RCB’s campaign in IPL 2023, and fans on social media certainly missed his presence at No.3 in the batting order - more so after his heroics in the 2022 edition of the cricket extravaganza.

His efforts in IPL 2022 showed the world why he is deemed a meteoric talent and how RCB has unearthed the best in him, and as we celebrate Rajat Patidar’s 30th birthday, here is a glimpse of the top three knocks played by the batting star from the previous season.

1.    112* vs LSG, Eden Gardens

In the first Eliminator of IPL 2022, RCB were up against the Lucknow Super Giants. The two openers, Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis couldn’t add many runs to the total and it needed a heroic effort from Rajat Patidar blade to usher RCB out of trouble. As they say, cometh the hour, cometh the man and it seemed as if Patidar reserved his best for the Eliminator as he belted the LSG bowlers relentlessly to every single nook and cranny of the park. He became the first uncapped Indian to smash a century in the IPL playoffs and his 112 allowed RCB to post a mammoth total on the board.

2.    52 vs GT, Brabourne Stadium

Though this half-century came in a losing cause, Patidar blazed a crucial knock against the mighty Gujarat Titans, a superb effort that came after RCB were dented early with Faf du Plessis back in the hut. With Kohli also struggling to get going, Patidar took it upon himself and brought out his range of strokes, also going on to register his maiden IPL fifty.

3.    58 vs RR, Narendra Modi Stadium

In another innings where Rajat Patidar rocked the show, the RCB star took on the RR bowlers in Ahmedabad to put up an incredible 58, in a match which saw the other batsmen finding run-making hard. It was Patidar who would steer RCB to a fighting total as their other batters crumbled under the pressure, and eventually, Patidar’s knock that comprised four fours and three sixes fuelled the team to 157 on the board.
