Getting a hundred I think is quite special: Dinesh Karthik on Arjun Tendulkar’s century on Ranji trophy debut
Arjun Tendulkar has always been a name that has been touted as an upcoming talent and despite his father, Sachin Tendulkar, being one of the legends of the sport, Arjun has taken his liking towards left-arm medium pace and has prospered with the cherry in his hands.
However, the narrative changed entirely on Tuesday when Arjun Tendulkar who has chosen to represent Goa in the Indian domestic circuit, replicated his father’s heroics by scoring a century on his Ranji Trophy debut against Rajasthan, and the world simply cannot stop talking about it.
Sachin Tendulkar started his Ranji career with an incredible century against Gujarat in the Wankhede Stadium and 34 years later, it was his son sprinkling stardust with the bat. RCB wicket-keeper, Dinesh Karthik opened up on how good has Arjun Tendulkar been in the lead-up to his Ranji Trophy debut and what the knock will mean for the youngster.
Talking to Cricbuzz, Karthik said, “I have seen Arjun quite a bit you know he is more of a left-arm medium pacer who can bat a bit, but he definitely had credentials with the bat. You could see that he can hit a ball, but getting a hundred I think is quite special. Kudos to him, and many more to the team, we generally don't associate Arjun Tendulkar with the bat but it is good knowing that he has worked hard on his batting.”
He also talked about how Arjun Tendulkar took a massive gamble by changing teams ahead of the tournament, stating, “I have seen him in England when he used to practice with the younger boys there, he had the potential to obviously do well. Credit to him, moving states, taking that big gamble, and then taking in the opportunity with both hands.”
Arjun Tendulkar shared a momentous partnership of 221 runs with one of the rising stars of RCB, Suyash Prabhudessai. Suyash himself notched up his maiden double hundred in the Ranji trophy, scoring a stellar 212.
