From Glenn Maxwell to Mahipal Lomror – top three performances for RCB vs CSK
In an array of impressive performances that RCB would ride on to bag their sixth win of the season, it was going to be everything but easy in nominating the top three performances of the night. From Faf’s blitzkrieg in the wee hours of the game to Virat’s excellent catch of Ravindra Jadeja, it needed some microscopic shuffling to pick the most phenomenal ones for the night.
On a night where RCB produced more than three electric showdowns to bag an emphatic win, we picked the three that created the maximum impact on the fabric of the game, considering the situation, the surroundings and the numbers.
1. Glenn Maxwell
Much to Chennai’s relief, Maxwell would depart early after a mix-up in the middle with Virat Kohli. Despite failing to contribute with the bat, he would come back to haunt the Super Kings with the ball in his arms. On a surface where the turn was at its peak, Maxwell would conjure an impeccable line and length to make the batters toil to get those runs. Just when it felt that despite the loss of Gaikwad, Chennai had ample firepower to seal the fate of the game, it was Maxwell who would remove the hero of the last Southern Derby, Uthappa to suddenly put a stopper in Chennai’s effusive run flow. He struck again in quick succession to get the big wicket of Ambati Rayudu, rattling another partnership that would leave the Kings stuttering. He would cap off his performance with figures of 4-0-22-2.
2. Mahipal Lomror
If there has been a recurrent theme in RCB’s wins this season, it has been their youngsters pulling off one reckoning display after the other. After the earlier illustrations by Shahbaz Ahmed, Suyash Prabhudessai and Rajat Patidar, it was Mahipal Lomror who would show his true class against CSK. Promoted higher up the order, he weathered the initial storm and would finally bring out the big guns that allowed RCB to conjure the late storm, propelling them to a crucial 173. He would rack up an impressive display of 42 runs from only 27 balls.
3. Harshal Patel
Wickets win you matches and Harshal would have the numbers perfectly laid out in front of him. From getting the wicket of Ravindra Jadeja to sealing the game for RCB, Harshal was the ultimate showstopper of the night. His first scalp of the night was the big one of Ravindra Jadeja who would completely miss the line and end up skying his effort that was bagged perfectly by Virat Kohli. However, the game-changing moment produced by Harshal was that of Moeen Ali’s big scalp. He would produce an absolute ripper to remove the English southpaw and the final digit in his tally would be the one of Dwaine Pretorius just when he wanted to get going.
