From Alana King to Renuka Singh: Top five bowlers in the WPL auction
In less than two days, the auction for the Women’s Premier League will be held at the Jio Convention Centre, sparking hopes for a new cricketing revolution where the entire nation will be hooked to the television screens hoping to witness a one-of-a-kind spectacle. There is a total of 409 players who are going to be a part of the WPL auction out of which there are a slew of stars all set to rock and roll their way through the upcoming phenomenon.
As the speculations build for which players are the ones that would see some serious cash splurge, here is the list of five bowlers who have been wreaking havoc across the world and will rivet some serious attention when the gavel pulsates in the mini war-room on Monday.
1. Shabnim Ismail
A speed demon who is capable of belting those 130 KPH thunderbolts, the South African ace quick has been a reckoning force in T20I cricket. From 117 matches, she has claimed 115 wickets at a fabulous economy rate of 5.76 and also boasts of 2 fifers in her glistening T20I career.
2. Renuka Singh
India’s rising pace star, who was recently awarded the Emerging Women’s Cricketer of the Year in 2022, Renuka Singh has rightly stepped up when her nation needed her to deliver. She is a medium-fast bowler but her line and length has been something to watch out for. With a predilection for performing in the big games, Renuka Singh left the juggernauts of women’s cricket with a sour taste in their mouth. From 27 T20I games, she has managed to claim 24 wickets at a brilliant economy rate of 6.4.
3. Megan Schutt
An absolute beast in the shortest format of the game, Megan Schutt can make miracles happen and is known for her precision in derailing opposition at will. She is able to clock 130 KPH with consummate ease and the kind of precision that she brings to the platter is nothing short of perfect. From 90 T20I games that she has played so far, she has claimed 114 wickets at a stunning bowling average of 16.34 and an economy rate of 6.22.
4. Alana King
Even though her numbers are on the slightly lower side, Alana King is an enforcing figure in the arcade of women's cricket. She knows her art pretty well and would leave you stunned with those magical deliveries that would rip through the batter’s defences even before you know. From 18 T20I matches, she has managed to amass 21 wickets at a pretty stellar average of 16.42 and an economy rate of 6.25.
5. Fran Jonas
Once again fairly new to the international circuit, Fran Jonas has been doing some significant rounds in staving away the batters that have gone up against her in the shortest format of the game. She was in fine touch in the recently concluded WBBL and her mystery bowling where she jumbles up her pace adeptly makes her a very dangerous customer. She has claimed 13 wickets from 12 T20I games and has managed to produce a stunning economy rate of 4.08.
