Royal Challengers Bangalore started their IPL 2022 campaign with a narrow loss in their IPL opener as Punjab Kings pipped them to the finishing line in a run-fest. Faf du Plessis belted out an absolute blitzer while Virat Kohli and Dinesh Karthik came forth with decent cameos to propel the Challengers to a staggering 205.

The Royal Challengers have had a few lessons to learn in the opener but given the long way that it is, it is just a matter of one victory before the story needs to be rewritten.

Faf du Plessis, the new RCB captain had quite a few things to say at the post-match presentation. “We probably dropped Odean on 10, and he's a really powerful hitter. You need to hold on to your chances. Cliche: catches win matches. Dew out there, small margins. Punjab had a really good powerplay. The ball skidded more in the second innings. I know what Odean Smith can do to you so you need to hold on to your chances,” he said.

Faf had a tough start to his campaign with the ball moving around for quite a bit that forced some unpleasant movement from the South African skipper. However, once he got his eyes in, it was sheer carnage from his bat that left the Punjab bowlers reeling in agony. On his fabulous knock of 88 off 57 balls, “I thought it was quite tough in the beginning. The ball was swinging. Pleasing to get through," he explained.

RCB will be up against KKR on Wednesday in their next chapter of the fifteenth edition of the tournament.
