Faf du Plessis has answered that loud and clear: Tom Moody showers heavy praise on RCB’s captain after terrific IPL 2023 season
Back in 2022, post Virat Kohli’s decision to step down from captaincy, there were a lot of questions raised about how the team would function under a new captain, and who the think-tank would pick at the auction to handle such a massive responsibility.
RCB’s first major pick was Faf du Plessis, and given his acres of experience not just in the IPL but also for South Africa, it was a given that he would lead the team.
Faf enjoyed a decent season with the bat, top-scoring for the team and stepping up to the role that was asked of him. Come 2023, Faf did that and much more, putting his naysayers to shame with a season to remember - and comfortably his best performance over the many years he’s played in the IPL.
The stylish opener was at his menacing best, dishing out proper treatment to the best of bowlers and finishing with a staggering haul of 730 runs. Faf led from the front and made batting look deceptively easy, also putting up eight half-centuries from 14 matches to lead RCB’s charge.
Talking about Faf’s captaincy stint that was accentuated by his ecstatic batting display, former Australian cricketer, Tom Moody, showered praises on the RCB skipper. Moody highlighted how Faf’s inclusion has benefitted RCB and why he is one of the best stars of IPL at the ripe age of 38.
Moody said, “The investment in the leadership of Faf du Plessis (is an important takeaway). Two years ago, a lot of people were unsure whether that would work or how long that would last for. But Faf du Plessis has answered that very loud and clear. Not only is he at the top of his game at the age of 38, but his leadership is outstanding."
Talking about the outstanding duo of Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli, Moody said, “Both [Kohli and Faf ] had outstanding seasons. Particularly Faf, in my view, scored at a regular strike rate throughout the whole season and really set an incredible tempo from the time he walked to the crease. Virat Kohli finished the season in unbelievable style with two great hundreds."
Faf’s 730 runs were deftly accompanied by Virat Kohli’s impressive 639 that comprised two consecutive centuries, blowing away a countless number of records with this incredible feat of his.
