Faf and Maxwell show goes in vain as Mumbai Indians win big against RCB

Despite another rampant show with the bat from the Royal Challengers Bangalore, things were simply not to be as Mumbai Indians made easy work of a 200-run target courtesy of an explosive knock from Suryakumar Yadav, who slammed his way past the RCB bowlers and helped MI chase down the total with 21 balls to spare.

Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to bowl first on a track that had very little on offer for the bowlers. RCB had a couple of early blows that left them teetering in the powerplay in the form of Virat Kohli (1) and Anuj Rawat (6), both of whom lost their wicket to Jason Behrendorff.

However, it was the partnership between RCB captain, Faf du Plessis (65) who continued with his rampage up top, smashing his sixth half-century of the season and Glenn Maxwell (68), that helped RCB steady the ship. The duo piled up another century partnership for the third wicket as the Royal Challengers seemed firmly in control with the bat.

After a sturdy partnership between the two, their dismissals meant that RCB found themselves losing steam pretty fast in the middle-overs as they lost three quick wickets for a span of 10 runs. The slide started with the scalp of Glenn Maxwell followed by the hero of the last game, Mahipal Lomror (1), and then Faf himself.

It was eventually Dinesh Karthik (30) who would take over the finishing duties and help RCB to fight back from a heap of ruins. Kedar Jadhav (12*) played the perfect anchor at the other end while a late lunge from Wanindu Hasaranga (12) allowed RCB to pile up 199 from 20 overs.

Mumbai Indians got off to a feisty start as Ishan Kishan called the shots but a double whammy from Hasaranga, the Sri Lanka inflicting two wickets in a single over including the big scalps of the openers brought RCB back to the game.

Much to the woes of the Royal Challengers, the third-wicket partnership of 140 runs between Suryakumar Yadav (83) and Nehal Wadhera (52) stole the game away from RCB. Vyshak Vijaykumar did manage to find a couple of breakthroughs but the damage was already done and Mumbai Indians chased down the total in 16.3 overs.
