Everyone believes that today we will win the match: Mohammed Shami on India’s chances of clinching WTC Final victory
As the battle for the World Test Championship final enters its final day at the Oval with India’s hopes dangling by a thread, there's still a lot of belief that Rohit Sharm's men can chase down the 444-run target with a well-set Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane at crease.
At Stumps on Day 4, Kohli was unbeaten on 44 while Rahane was battling with a hard-fought 20 as India finishing at 164/3.
With 280 runs to be chased down in those 97 overs that are to be bowled on the final day, India will hope the seasoned pair at the center battle out a majority of the deficit. Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami believes that the match is very much open and India remain in the hunt of what could be their maiden WTC final triumph.
In a post-match interview, Mohammed Shami said, “100 per cent everyone believes that today we will win the match. Because we have always fought. We perform well around the world. Not here only. So, we believe and we always come together to win this match.”
He further added, “According to me, if you bat well, 280 runs - is not a big score. So, according to me, you should bat normally in a Test match. You should focus on playing ball by ball. You should not look at the long target. So, according to me, chances of success are higher there. When you keep small goals and targets, you will get more success. So, according to me, you should play normally.”
