England’s batting not good enough for these conditions: Andrew Strauss
Ever since the third Test match finished inside two days, the focus of the entire cricketing fraternity was on the kind of pitch the hosts were going to prepare for the last game. With a spot in the final of World Test Champions at stake, it was always going to be tricky. But when England decided to bat first, they were exposed to a surface that had all the ingredients to be a good wicket.
England, though, once again failed to impress much, strengthening the belief that it’s indeed been their performance which has led to low scores in the series, and it was unfair to pin the blame on the surface.
Speaking on Channel 4, former England captain Andrew Strauss criticised English batting, saying that the tourists could no longer make any excuses.
"The Indian bowling was good, we've come to expect good quality Indian bowling... but let's not hide away from the truth: England's batting in these conditions is not good enough, quite frankly," he said.
"You can think of all sorts of excuses around pitches and balls and inexperience, but if you want to win in India you have got to find a way of getting first-innings runs and England haven't been able to do that," he added.
After their batters failed to impress, the England bowlers have done well to keep their side in the game by preventing the Indian batters from scoring freely on the second day of the ongoing Test.
