Delhi take on Mumbai in the first afternoon game of IPL 2022

IPL 2022 will stay witness to its first double-header on its very second day that will feature the clash of two titans kickstarting the day. Delhi Capitals will be crossing swords against one of the most successful teams of the annual franchise extravaganza, the Mumbai Indians.

The five-time champions of the tournament will be raring to start their campaign on a rambunctious note while Delhi Capitals will be eager to set things right after crashing out of the tournament in the second eliminator of 2021 to a last-over six from Kolkata Knight Riders.

Much to the disappointment of the Mumbai fans, they will be without the likes of their starry middle-order batter, Suryakumar Yadav with Tilak Verma seemingly being the likeliest candidate to replace him. They will also be having vengeance on their mind, considering the fact that in the precursor edition of the tournament, they were schooled twice by the Capitals as their batters failed to fire on both occasions.

Delhi Capitals will have to start their campaign without Australian opener, David Warner, who is currently involved in Australia’s tour of Pakistan while Mitchell Marsh will also be missing out on the initial games due to the same assignment.

Despite the absence of a few starry names, both the outfits have a formidable squad at their disposal and the contest will be nothing short of a thrilling blockbuster as the likes of Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant will be locking horns to settle a few scores on a bright Sunday afternoon.

Venue watch:

Brabourne Stadium is an ardent promoter of equality between batters and bowlers and it will play its traditional munificent role to both sides as it hosts the second game of the season. There have been quite a few 200 plus scores that signify additional assistance to the batters. Needless to say, the boundaries are quite short and the outfield is lightning fast. The pitch is composed of red soil that will showcase similar features with the fast bowlers getting some additional bounce in the first half while with the kind of wear and tear that the aforementioned ilk of soil is known for, the spinners will find a few outlets in the second. The stadium has played host to 8 T20 matches out of which 6 have been won by the side while the team batting first prevailed on a couple of occasions.
