Day 2 at the Royal Challengers Bangalore Training Camp
On day two of the Royal Challengers Bangalore training camp, a bunch of players, including head coach Simon Katich, came out of their mandatory quarantine. The team underwent another centre wicket scenario practice session in Chennai featuring some of the Indian internationals and domestic talents.
Katich took charge of the day's training and explained the planned itinerary. First up, he explained the various scenarios that the batsmen would face and how they must execute those tasks. Each batsmen were given specific targets and were also paired up.
“There are some good athletes here and they've ride on the money right from the word go, but when we get out in the middle basically we're going to have probably five or six different scenarios over the three hours. A lot of the batsmen will be either in pairs or threes, which set sort of plays for 30 to 36 balls, depending on whether it's power play middle overs death stuff. It's basically a way to get the guys trying to get into that sort of match intensity with their decision making,” Simon Katich said on Bold Diaries.
What was on cards for the bowlers?
“The bowlers will only have to bowl a few overs here and there around the different scenarios whether it's spin, pace because you can get a lot out of it. But, also just be mindful that you've been cooped up for a week and this is a marathon, not a sprint so it's just a whole difference. I guess way of preparing in terms of rather than being in the nets, we've got the freedom of being out in the middle here and the guys can do some match scenarios,” added Katich
Sachin Baby was overjoyed to be returning to the Red and Gold club and beginning training with the team after completing quarantine.
"Even I was waiting for the last couple of days to come back and to train and finally, it's a day so I’m really excited to go there and hit some balls,” said Sachin Baby.
RCB will play practice games starting from this Saturday
“We've tried to split the groups up in two just because obviously, the heat and also because we want to give the guys as much possible time out here to get prepared. Our first practice game is on Saturday and then our next one's on Monday so four-day sort of window to get guys ready,” said Katich.
The advantage of playing on centre wicket
“On the centre wicket, you really know where the fielders are so according to it becomes easy because I mean not easy in the way of batting, but it becomes very easy when you go out in the match. When you are on the centre field it becomes more realistic, rather than hitting in the nets,” said Suyash Prabhudessai.
A productive practice session
“Really enjoyed it, was a great session. The intensity out here and we had been given some targets and we were asked to achieve them. Me and my partner, we did very well in order to tick those boxes and it was great learning at the same time and it was a really productive session,” said Kona Srikar Bharat.
