As we enter into 2024, another year of blockbuster cricketing action awaiting us all, Australian legend, David Warner called it a day in ODI cricket. It was already known that he will be stepping down from Test cricket after Australia’s Test series against Pakistan but now the Aussie opener said that he has chosen to step down from ODI cricket. However, in case his nation wants him to be a part of the 2025 Champions Trophy, Dave would be available for that.

Talking to the reporters at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Warner made it clear that his ODI days will also come to an end alongside his Test playing era. He said, “I'm definitely retiring from one-day cricket as well. That was something that I had said through the World Cup, get through that, and winning it in India, I think that's a massive achievement.”

He further added, “So I'll make that decision today, to retire from those forms, which does allow me to go and play some other leagues around the world and sort of get the one-day team moving forward a little bit. I know there's a Champions Trophy coming up. If I'm playing decent cricket in two years' time and I'm around and they need someone, I'm going to be available."

Until now, Warner has scored 6932 ODI runs at an average of 45.30, numbers which also feature 22 centuries in the shorter format of the game. He is Australia’s sixth highest run scorer in the format and when it comes to scoring tons, stands second to the icon, Ricky Ponting who has 29 ODI centuries.

Alongside these impressive figures, he has also racked up a couple of ODI World Cups, having secured the silverware first in 2015 while being a part of the Australian team that went onto win the crown in 2023 in India.
