Change is the only constant – Andy Flower reflects on his first address at RCB
The start of the IPL season is always mixed with many uncertainties and unknowns. It’s more like blending everything together and hoping the concoction will be fine. However, the challenge becomes much trickier when you have just won the IPL the previous year.
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru were set to open their IPL 2026 campaign with a clash against their southern rivals, Sunrisers Hyderabad. Talking on RCB’s Trophy Quest – The Second Act, RCB head coach Andy Flower discussed pre-season rituals and his approach at the start of the campaign.
Flower said, “At the start of each season, I tend to address the group. I think it's the right thing for one of the leaders to do. At the start of this season, we did use a quote that was, change is the only constant. And the reason I chose that quote was because, firstly, we have a philosophy of not trying to defend our title, but rather hunt the next one.”
He further added, “One of the dangers in a human condition is that we try to hold on to stuff that's good. And that's, I think, an unhealthy emotional place to be. Understanding that everything is changing all the time, I think, is a very healthy place to be. I didn't want us to try to hold on to the fact that we played a certain style last year or had a certain success last year. This year was different. And I think that's a good life lesson for our players.”
