Challengers around the globe: Tim David continues his batting pyrotechnics in CPL
Fresh from a successful ‘The Hundred’ campaign, Tim David is now turning heads in the Caribbean Premier League. Needless to say, he has made a bright start to his maiden season in CPL. Not long ago, he feasted on the Jamaican Tallawahs bowling attack, scoring a quickfire 56 off 28 balls in his debut match for the Kings.
He followed that up with a match-defining knock against Trinbago Knight Riders on Monday. While the team were left in the doldrums, losing four wickets for just 69 runs, David, relatively new to the crease, was quick off the blocks. The 25-year-old compiled 43 runs off 32 balls studded with 3 sixes and 3 boundaries. His 68-run partnership with Roston Chase bailed St Lucia out of trouble, pioneering them to a competitive total of 157 in 20 overs.
He has a habit of performing well when the chips are down, whether in the Pakistan Super League or the ongoing Caribbean Premier League. His ability to thrive in such situations explains a lot about his temperament.
The role of a finisher, especially in limited-overs cricket, is difficult to master. The Singapore-born cricketer has adapted admirably to the role of finisher in recent months. His performances speak for themselves. Since December 2020, the T20 globetrotter has plied his trade for the various teams across different T20 leagues, amassing 958 runs at an average of 43.54. More importantly, it is his strike rate of 155.77 which really stands out amongst his statistics.
With a slew of match-winning performances, the tall and well-built all-rounder has made everyone sit and take notice.
