Bumrah's always been a special talent – Tim Southee
Jasprit Bumrah raked up an absolute storm in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, walking away with the Player of the Series award for his extraordinary performance. His absence on the last day due to back spasms haunted India badly as Australia chased the target in Sydney. New Zealand fast-bowler, Tim Southee has been in utter adulation of the Indian speedster and in an exclusive interview with the Hindustan Times Cricket, echoed his sentiments vocally.
Southee said, “He's been tremendous to have an injury setback like he did. And to be able to bounce back and arguably be a better bowler now than what he was pre-injury. So, he's always been a special talent. He's obviously got a unique action, pace, and skill.”
He further added, “The ability to move the ball both ways and at a very good pace is very tough. So, I think he's got the skill set. He's got a unique action. And he's just been brilliant. I think people don't quite understand juggling across all three formats as well is not easy. And for him to be able to be probably the best bowler across all three formats currently is an incredible achievement.”
Bumrah was compelled to take a long hiatus from cricket due to his stress fracture. However, ever since his return, he has been absolutely unstoppable for more than a year now. Southee pointed out that for a fast-bowler recovering from a stress fracture is incredibly difficult. The fact that Bumrah not only recovered and came back stronger, makes him one of the most resilient cricketers ever.
Southee concluded by saying, “So, yeah, like I said, to have a major injury setback and bounce back the way he has, I admire watching him, and I look forward to seeing how good he can be over the next few years as well."
