Both are quite capable of winning games on their own – Rohit Sharma on KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant

As India gear up for the England series, the inclusion of star wicket-keeper batters Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul and how they may fare has been making the rounds. With both of them being a part of the squad, India will be inclined to play one as a keeper while the other will be taking the yard as a specialist batter. With questions looming large about who India might pick if asked to choose between the two, India captain Rohit Sharma opened up about the matter at length.

Talking in the pre-match presser ahead of India’s first ODI against England, Rohit Sharma said, “Obviously, KL has been keeping wickets for us in the ODI format for a number of years now, and he's done pretty well. If you look at the last 10-15 ODIs, he's done exactly what the team required him to do. Rishabh as well, he's there, we've got the option of playing either one of them.”

He further added, “Both are quite capable of winning games on their own, so it's a good headache to have whether to play KL or Rishabh, but obviously, looking at what we've done in the past, having that continuity is also very important for us, so that is where we stand as a team, with KL and Rishabh."

The Indian captain also had an update about Jasprit Bumrah, stating, “Look, Jasprit, obviously we're waiting on some update about his scan and stuff, which was due to happen in the next few days. Once we get that scan, we'll be able to give you more clarity on where he stands right now.”

With the Champions Trophy on the horizon, India will be hopeful of Bumrah recovering to his fullest as his presence can be a boon unparalleled to Team India. That might just make the Men in Blue delay his return to the international circuit after he suffered a back spasm in Australia.
