However, the last three match-ups between the two sides has seen India dictating the narrative with a 3-0 triumph in the ODI series over New Zealand.
Here is a glance at the last three 50-over contests played between the two teams and how they unfurled in India’s favour:
India won by 12 runs, Hyderabad
It was an ecstatic display from Shubman Gill as he blasted a 212 against a reckoning Kiwi bowling attack. Despite the other batters barely able to contribute, Shubman Gill’s blistering double ton allowed India to post a staggering 349/8. Despite Mohammed Siraj’s early inroads and India’s imposing start, current RCB all-rounder Michael Bracewell catapulted New Zealand to the fore with a thrilling chase only to be undone in the dying embers. Siraj clinched a four-fer to headline the Indian bowling unit as they secured a 12-run victory.
India won by eight wickets, Chhattisgarh
It was a joyride for the Indian cricketers at Chhattisgarh as their bowlers put up a stunning show to dismantle the Blackcaps. Mohammed Shami spearheaded the Indian bowling unit with a fine 3/16 while he was aptly accompanied by Washington Sundar and Hardik Pandya as the duo clinched four wickets between them. The Indian batters had a walk in the park as they scripted a remarkable eight-wicket win over the Kiwis that saw Rohit Sharma smashing another half-century while Shubman Gill stayed unbeaten for 40.
India won by 90 runs, Indore
The Indian openers asserted themselves significantly well throughout the series and the series finale was no different. With the series already clinched, Gill produced another of those magical knocks of his, with an incredible 112 while Rohit played the perfect two to tango with another blistering ton to his tally. India’s 385 proved to be too overwhelming for the Black Caps as they were skittled out for 295, despite a 138-run knock from Devon Conway. Shardul Thakur was the pick of the lot with figures of 3/45.
