This is the first time Shikhar Dhawan will be captaining a senior Indian side. Leading a bunch of fiery youngsters, Dhawan seems all geared up for the big responsibility. Ahead of team’s departure for Sri Lanka, Dhawan sounded confident of his team’s ability and said they are ready for the new challenge.

On team environment

"This is a very good team. There is positivity, confidence in our team and everybody is confident that we will do well. There is a lot of excitement," Dhawan said.

On leading the team

"It is a great honour for me to be the captain of the Indian team and looking forward to it. At the same time, as a team, we are working with Rahul ‘Bhaiya’ (Rahul Dravid). The boys are doing smart work and are looking forward to these matches. The players have already performed well. The team is a nice blend of experience and youth," Dhawan said.

On advantages of a bio-bubble

We are together while living in a bubble or a secluded area. That culture - prevalent 10-15 years ago - when all boys used to be together after the day’s play is coming back due to the bio-bubble life. We are spending time together. It is helping in bonding. That is a sign of a good team — good bonding, trust and I am sure, we will gain from each other’s experience," he said further.

On importance of a good start in T20Is

“It is important for the top-order to stay long at the crease over there. Give good start in first six overs in T20 and build long innings from there. Of course, we will play according to the demands of the situation. Boys are looking to perform their roles,” added the 35-year-old.
