Big Bash to introduce new set of rules from upcoming season
Australia’s flagship T20 tournament Big Bash League (BBL) will introduce a series of new rules from its upcoming season.
Known for its innovative out of the box thinking, the league had replaced coin toss with bat flip from 2018/19 season. And now in a major boost to up the excitement quotient, the tournament will have features like Power Surge, X-Factor Player, and Bash Boost.
Power Surge
The Power Surge will reduce the mandatory powerplay at the beginning of the innings to just four overs. The remaining two overs can be taken by the batting team at any point from the 11th over onwards.
X-Factor Player
Adding the spice to contest will be the X-Factor player. Teams will be able to substitute in an X-Factor player at the 10th over mark of the first innings. The player will either be 12th or 13th on the team sheet. The X-Factor player will only be able to replace a player who has not batted or bowled less than an over in the innings.
Bash Boost
Now a win will not guarantee full four points but just points. For the extra one point, teams will have to put in the extra yard. The Bash Boost point will be awarded halfway through the chase. The team chasing will be awarded the point if they are above the equivalent score of the opposition, else the point will go to the fielding point.
The BBL is scheduled to run from December 10 to February 6.
