BCCI to ‘Wait and watch’ before taking a call on IPL
The key outcome from the Indian Premier League (IPL) governing council meeting with all the eight franchise owners was to adopt a “wait and watch” approach. The COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) pandemic which has created widespread caution across the globe, had earlier forced the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to put off the start of IPL till April 15th.

The BCCI reiterated the stance that it will work closely with the government to monitor the situation over the next few weeks before taking a decision on how to proceed with regards to the 2020 edition of the league.
Ness Wadia, the co-owner of Kings XI Punjab, ensured that none of the stakeholders - the BCCI, the franchise owners or the host broadcaster Star Sports were concerned about the financial aspect of the league, and instead the focus would be to prioritize people’s health and safety.
The central government of India has placed severe travel restrictions on people coming in and going out of the country until 15th April, to ensure that the novel coronavirus threat is contained. The government had also asked sporting bodies to adhere to the health ministry’s advice and exercise caution while organizing an event that would lead to mass gatherings. As of now, the fate of the IPL still hangs in balance.
