BCCI shares archival match footage with broadcaster
The Board of Control for Cricket in India has finally agreed to a demand from its broadcast partner Star India Pvt Ltd. With all live sporting events, including the much-anticipated IPL 2020 being canceled, the broadcasters wanted the BCCI to share its massive bank of archival footage.
Star will now have access to some of the historic matches featuring Team India. The same will be telecast for the viewers until the end of the global lockdown. An official letter is likely to be sent to the broadcaster anytime soon.
“These are unusual times so I think they (Star) made this request. They have been partners with the BCCI for nine years now. That’s the least the BCCI could have done and it’s great that they agreed to it,” The Times of India quoted a source.
Meanwhile, the board has also sent a letter to the host broadcaster invoking the ‘Force Majeure’ clause should there be a suspension/delay in hosting the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League.
It’s a clause that prevents a party from performing its obligations under a contract in case there is an occurrence of an event that is beyond the control of a party. However, it is just a contractual obligation sent as a precautionary measure and the board is learnt to have not specified to the broadcaster as to what is the plan for hosting the IPL.
Sources close to the development said that the IPL remains the top priority but only if the current COVID-19 situations improve in the months to come.
