BCCI considering Dravid as India coach for Sri Lanka tour: Reports
The new normal which makes it mandatory for teams to quarantine in a country before getting on with the cricketing duty means that India have been forced to have two separate teams for Sri Lanka and England tour.
While the squad for the England tour, scheduled to take place in August-September, is announced, all eyes remain on the list of players who will travel to Sri Lanka for limited overs series in July.
Fortunately, from an Indian perspective, the growth of IPL in recent years means that they always have the next crop ready and the second-string sides are as good as any other side in the world. The depth of India’s bench strength was apparent during the tour to Australia where for every fallen soldier, there was a young Turk ready to take on the role.
With such a strong crop of cricketers ready to take on the job, the only headache for the BCCI is to finalize the support staff for the tour.
However, if reports are to be believed, the board seems to have found a solution to the problem. A report in Cricbuzz said that the BCCI is mulling the possibility of having Rahul Dravid as the coach for the Sri Lanka tour, along with some of his support staff from the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
Although, the details of the tour are in the process of finalizing, the BCCI has definitely taken a unique step to accommodate a series utilizing the window that would have otherwise gone wasted. And all this could be possible because of the white-ball specialists in the Indian team, thanks to the IPL.
