The BCCI has approved in principle the inclusion of two new IPL teams beginning from the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League in its AGM today. The IPL governing council has been tasked with working out the details of expanding the tournament with the two new teams.

Jay Shah, meanwhile, has been appointed the BCCI representative to the ICC. Rajiv Shukla has been voted as the Vice President of the BCCI unopposed. which had been vacated by Mahim Verma earlier in the year. Brijesh Patel and Khairul Majumdar have also retained their positions in the IPL governing council without any objections. Former Indian cricketer Pragyan Ojha will join the council as the Indian Cricketers’ association representative.

The BCCI has deferred the decision on its agreement to participate in the 2028 Olympics, seeking further clarification from the ICC on the matter. The BCCI is also yet to take a call on the issue of tax exemption sought by the ICC to hold the 2021 edition of the ICC T20 World Cup in the country. The BCCI will seek the Indian government’s permission in the meanwhile.

The members of the AGM also agreed in principle to compensate the domestic cricketers in case of any loss of matches during the season. The final details regarding the matter are yet to be worked out.
