BCCI appoints new Head of Anti-Corruption Unit

Former Gujarat DGP Shabir Hussein Shekhadam Khandwawala has been appointed the head of the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Anti-Corruption Unit on Monday. 

Mr Shabir Hussein, a 1973 batch IPS officer who retired as Gujarat DGP in December 2010, is set to take over the Anti-Corruption Unit from Ajit Singh, the former DGP of Rajasthan, who has held this important position since April 2018.

It is worth noting that Mr Singh will stay for a few days to ensure that the new chief has a better understanding of the operations.

Speaking to PTI, the 70-year-old expressed his gratitude for being appointed to by the Board and also revealed that he is a vivid fan of the game.

“It is a matter of a great honour that I am part of the BCCI which is the best run cricketing body in the world. Besides my expertise on security matters, what should help me in this role is my love for the game,” the 70-year-old said.

Former Gujarat Chief of Police took the opportunity to congratulate his predecessor for ensuring the spirit of cricket being upheld during his tenure. 

“I also want to congratulate my predecessor for doing a fine job and keeping Indian cricket's image clean,” he added.
