BCCI announces India women's squad for Commonwealth Games
BCCI has announced the women’s squad that will be representing the nation in the latest edition of the Commonwealth Games which are scheduled to be conducted in Birmingham.
Harmanpreet Kaur will be leading the lines for the opening edition of women’s cricket in the Commonwealth Games while the Indian women’s team will also stay witness to the return of Sneh Rana, Harleen Deol, and Taniya Bhatiya.
Sneh Rana’s return to the international fold would be a notable one as she missed out on the Sri Lankan tour after copping a serious injury. Despite Rana’s return to the national side, Yastika Bhatia would continue to be the first-choice keeper.
Despite being an imperative moniker in the recently concluded Women’s T20, Richa Ghosh’s recent form has placed her only in the reserves. She has amassed 191 runs from 14 games at a decent strike rate of 112. Alongside Richa, Simran Bahadur and Poonam Yadav will be the reserves for Team India ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
India has been clubbed with Australia, Barbados, and Pakistan in Group A. Group B will feature the likes of hosts England, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka. The two top teams from the respective groups will be advancing to the semis.
