In a groundbreaking announcement, BCCI secretary, Jay Shah, has announced that the Indian female cricketers will be earning the same match fee as their male counterparts. With the board’s new equity policy being declared, Indian women will be a part of the same fee policy that is being currently used for Men in Blue.

Under the new system, Indian women will be earning INR 15 lakh for a Test match, INR 6 lakh for an ODI and INR 3 lakhs for a T20I. The new amount that will be shelled out to the Women in Blue is significantly higher than their current structure of a flat one lakh for an ODI or a T20I and four lakh for a Test match.

Going by the status quo, there is no change currently in BCCI’s annual retainers for the women cricketers. The ones in the highest pay bracket will be earning INR 50 lakh, while Grade B and Grade C cricketers will be earning INR 30 lakh and INR 10 lakh respectively.

Jay Shah thanked BCCI’s Apex Council for their support in taking the first step in tackling gender disparity. The BCCI secretary took to Twitter, posting, “I’m pleased to announce @BCCI’s first step towards tackling discrimination. We are implementing pay equity policy for our contracted @BCCIWomen cricketers. The match fee for both Men and Women Cricketers will be the same as we move into a new era of gender equality in Cricket.”
