BCCI announce India-W squad for upcoming series against New Zealand

The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) has announced the Women’s squad for India’s upcoming challenge against New Zealand. Amidst all the speculations about a shift in captaincy and other major challenges, there were new faces in the squad but Harmanpreet Kaur retained her leadership while Richa Ghosh was given a break due to her 12th standard exams.

Smriti Mandhana was handed over the vice-captaincy and will continue to spearhead the Indian batting charge. There were four uncapped players who were called up to the Indian side namely Tejal Hasnabis, Sayali Satgare, Priya Mishra and Saima Thakor. The quartet played for India A in Australia recently and as a result of their impressive performances, they were roped in the India squad.

Apart from Richa Ghosh, Asha Sobhana was unavailable after she suffered an injury during the Women’s T20 World Cup while Pooja Vastrakar was rested. Uma Chetry was dropped after India’s Asia Cup outing, was recalled to the side and will be a part of the squad for the Indian women.
