BBL records tumble as Maxwell and Stoinis destroy the Hobart Hurricanes

Melbourne were left starstruck as the Big Show went berserk with the willow.

Records tumbled like a house of cards in front of an outrageous Glenn Maxwell who smoked the Hobart bowlers at will to every nook and cranny of the park.

Maxwell stayed unbeaten on 154, which is the highest score by a batter in an innings in the BBL. He smashed 22 boundaries and 4 sixes in his mind-blowing assault on the hapless Hurricanes bowlers.

Stars piled up the highest score in an innings in the Big Bash League that saw Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell dictating the proceedings in a merciless display of strokeplay.

Stars’ total of 272 was the third-highest score in an innings in all of the franchise and international T20 cricket that was bettered only by the likes of Afghanistan and the Czech Republic. Maxwell’s 154 from 64 balls was also ranked ninth throughout.

His century against the Hurricanes that came from 41 balls was the second-fastest century in the history of BBL that was just two balls adrift of the mind-boggling blitzkrieg penned by Craig Simmons in 2014.

The most tormented victims of Maxwell were D’Arcy Short and Sandeep Lamichhane as he prised out 21 and 22 runs off their overs respectively.

Maxwell was aptly supported by another tempest from the burly Marcus Stoinis who carved a 31-ball-75 to derail the Hurricanes despite the latter being set to play an eliminator.

Tim David was smoked by Stoinis for 26 runs in an over as every single Hurricanes bowler had an economy rate of 10 runs and more per over.

The knock from Maxwell came on the back of the ouster that the Stars had to face after the Hurricanes defeated the Renegades on Tuesday. The Stars were unfortunate as they had to play two games without a lion’s share of their squad after Covid played spoilsport for them.
